2007

November

September

The results of a study co-authored by Associate Professor Francois Ortalo- Magné and Assistant Professor Morris Davis and published through the Cleveland Federal Reserve, were reported in a Dow Jones article. September 6, 2007.

A study co-authored by Assistant Professor Morris Davis and Associate Professor Francois Ortalo- Magné was quoted in Investor’s Business Daily. "Any change in the ability to purchase a home . . . can have a large impact on the level and volatility of housing prices," the study said. September 6, 2007.

Assistant Professor Morris Davis told The Capital Times in a recent interview that he expects the current housing slump will last at least three more years. “How much worse it’s going to get, nobody knows,” he said. September 11, 2007.

Associate Professor Francois Ortalo- Magné was quoted in a Milwaukee Magazine article about HomeVesters, the company whose slogan is, “We buy ugly houses.” He said of the company, “It's clever, these guys are like used car dealers they facilitate liquidity in the market.” August 1, 2007.

Department Chair and Real Estate Professor Steven Malpezzi, was quoted by the Wisconsin State Journal in an article about the renaming of the James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate. Malpezzi said of the late Professor Graaskamp, “He saw real estate development not just as a moneymaking operation but something that had to be done right for the good of society." April 14, 2007

Morris Davis is interviewed for a Miliwaukee Journal-Sentinel series on subprime mortgage woes. "Everyone on the property ladder is affected," he says. "Foreclosure fallout to spread," March 24, 2007.

Steve Malpezzi, department chairman and real estate professor, spoke to the Madison Downtown Rotary Club on March 8 about possible risks to Madison's real estate market, which involves considerable foreign investment. "China's central bank has $1.2 trillion in dollar reserves," he said. "What if they decide to convert some to euros?" Rise in Mortgage Rates-WSJ 3-8-07

Morris Davis, assistant professor of Real Estate and Urban Land Economics, was quoted in "No end to housing slump" on the MSN Money website, March 2. "I think we are in for another three years of below-average (growth) for house prices and residential real estate investment," Davis said.

Professor of Real Estate and Urban Land Economics Timothy Riddiough of the James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate is quoted in "State Sees Cash Cow in Government Buildings " in the February 6 online article from channel 27 WKOW.  The article discusses the plan to sell a government building to generate cash and additional property taxes.

Fortune.com: ASAP's Multimillion Dollar Portfolio

News of the school’s Applied Security Analysis program receiving an additional $31 million to invest from UW System was included in an online column by Andy Serwer on Fortune.com. It was also the subject of a major feature in the Wisconsin State Journal and on Wisconsin Public Radio.

Real Estate Professor Stephen Malpezzi was the subject of a feature interview in the September issue of the Korean real estate magazine, Noble Asset.
