Real Estate Club Expands Activities and Membership
With a reputation for being one of the most active student associations within the Wisconsin School of Business, the UW Real Estate Club continues to be an integral part of the educational experience for students. The club’s success is largely due to generous alumni donations of time, talent and treasury. The Real Estate Club currently has over 160 members and has increased membership by 9% over the previous semester.
2008 Speaker Series
Each semester, the Club hosts a broad range of real estate executives from across the country who provide insight on many aspects of the real estate industry. This semester’s series already kicked off with an intriguing panel discussion concerning the “credit crunch,” which featured Karin Shewer (Real Estate Capital Partners), Paul Edgar (Nationwide Real Estate Investments) and Rob Meister (Grandbridge Real Estate Capital). Al Fish from the University of Wisconsin Capital Planning also gave an interesting talk on UW’s campus development projects. Upcoming speakers include Tim Brauer and Mitch Adams from CB Richard Ellis.
Club Travels to New York City for Winter Trip
The Real Estate Club ventured to New York City on February 27-29 to meet with top real estate professionals and learn about the city’s real estate market. The visit began with a dinner with NYC alumni and the WREAA board. While in NYC, club members heard presentations from executives at Northwestern Mutual, Chelsea Piers Entertainment Complex, Morgan Stanley, Jonathan Rose Companies and Ackman-Ziff.
Real Estate Club Career Fair is a Success in spite of Rescheduled Date
On February 25, 2008 the UW Real Estate Club hosted over 30 diverse companies, including All State, Principal, Freddie Mac, Transwestern, JLL, Prudential, and DDR, at the annual Real Estate Career Fair. Although the fair was forced to change its original date of Feb. 6 to Feb. 25 because of a snow storm, the fair showed marked success for both the companies in attendance and the students.
The fair creates an opportunity for company representatives to meet the University of Wisconsin's best and brightest, who are seriously interested in exploring the challenges and opportunities to be found in the real estate profession. It provides a great forum for students and employers to network and line up internships and full-time job prospects. Both students and recruiters will also have the option of staying for a social after the fair to network and converse about careers in real estate.
The Club is grateful to the companies for their commitment and support in attending this year’s Real Estate Career Fair. Company support and involvement is of utmost importance to us as we continue to grow and develop the program.
