Professor François Ortalo-Magné, Real Estate and Urban Economics, was selected by the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE) to direct the group’s Annual Foreign Investment Survey, which provides important insights into the activity of foreign investors in the United States.

Professor Terry Warfield, Accounting, has been named to the Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council, which advises the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

Professor Joan Schmit, Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance, is a contributing researcher on a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. The project, “Developing New Risk-Based Capital Standards Across Europe,” received an award of more than $100,000.

Professor Urban Wemmerlöv, Kress Family Wisconsin Distinguished Professor and director of the Erdman Center for Operations and Technology Management, co-authored the fourth most widely cited paper published in the Journal of Operations Management since 1985, “Procedures for the Part Family/Machine Group Identification Problem in Cellular Manufacturing.”

John Surdyk, director of the Initiative for Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship, authored a chapter of a book. “Business: the Ultimate Resource” is the just-published second edition of a one-stop reference tool on business concepts.

Jerry WeygandtJerry Weygandt, a long-time professor in the Accounting department, officially retired in July. Weygandt taught undergraduate and graduate accounting courses at UW-Madison for more than 30 years and is a national leader in the field of accounting, having served as president of the American Accounting Association and on several key committees of the American Institute of CPAs. Among his many honors, he received the Outstanding Educator Award from the American Accounting Association and the Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Education Award from the Wisconsin Institute of CPAs.
