Accounting Faculty’s Research
Wins National Attention

Recently published research in Accounting, Organizations and Society placed Accounting Professors John Wild and Mark Covaleski among the elite research faculty in accounting since 1990. The same research identified an article written by Professor Jon Davis on public accounting as the most cited behavioral research article in Journal of Accounting Research since 1990 among elite research faculty worldwide and the 12th most cited paper in the journal overall during that time period. The Journal of Accounting Research is the top research journal in accounting.

A study co-authored by Associate Professor Hollis Ashbaugh-Skaife has gained national attention due to its insights into the benefits of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002. Ashbaugh-Skaife, along with colleagues from the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Iowa and the MIT-Sloan School of Management, conducted an extensive study of the effects of strong internal control on firm risk. The study found that firms that corrected their internal control problems, as mandated by the Act, lowered their cost of equity capital by 50 to 150 basis points.
