Donald Kirkpatrick, MBA ’49, had two books published in 2006: the third edition of “Evaluating Training Programs: The Four Levels ” and the second edition of “Improving Employee Performance Through Appraisal and Coaching,” which contains quotes from various coaches, including Elroy Hirsch and Barry Alvarez.
Donald Hahn, BBA ’57, recently published the 39th annual anniversary issue of “Stock Market Comments,” a financial report for institutional investors.
Howard Carver, MBA ’67, was honored in September by the Department of Accounting and Information Systems as a Distinguished Accounting Alumnus. During his 35-year tenure at Ernst & Young, Carver served as managing partner of the firm’s Hartford, Conn., office and as its national partner for the insurance industry. Since retiring in 2002, he has served on several corporate boards of directors and on the advisory board of the accounting department of the School of Business.
John Deininger, BBA ’75, has been named executive vice president of the REALTORS Association of South Central Wisconsin.
Thomas J. Linsmeier, MBA ’80, PhD ’85, was named to the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). He is the Russell E. Palmer Endowed Professor and chairman of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University.
Dan Adams, BBA ’81, is an author, trainer, keynote speaker and consultant in the sales and marketing industry. His new book, “Building Trust, Growing Sales,” was published in October.
Peggy Ladner, MBA ’82, accepted the position of state director of philanthropy and operations for Minnesota and the Dakotas at The Nature Conservancy.
Robert Sweet, BBA ’83, has been promoted to chief financial officer and corporate treasurer of Harken, Inc. He will manage global financial operations for the firm, which manufactures and distributes sailboat hardware and accessories. The company is headquartered in Pewaukee, Wis.
David Rosen, BBA ’84, has been promoted to executive vice president-international at FLEXcon Company, Inc. Rosen will be responsible for directing all operations outside of North America.
Terry Leavitt, BBA ’88, is the director of planning and allocations for Stage Stores, Inc., based in Houston, Texas. In addition, he has embarked on an abstract art career, and is currently represented at Mind Puddles Gallery.
Tobias Andropolis, ’89, was recently selected as a Fox Cities Inc. Innovator and received the Wisconsin Innovation Champion Award in 2005 for his work with the Inventors’ Network of Wisconsin.
Scott Braucht, MBA ‘89, has formed Scott Braucht & Associates, LLC, a capital campaign fundraising consulting firm in Madison. Braucht is a member of the business school’s Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship Board of Advisors.
Scott Petersen, BBA ’89, has joined Kirk Pinkerton, P.A. in Sarasota, Fla., and continues to practice in the areas of real estate, construction, probate and commercial litigation. He previously was with DeWitt, Ross & Stevens, S.C. in Madison, Wis.
Brian Mullen, BBA ’93, has been named an associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS).
Michael Saturley, BBA ’94, has been promoted to director of the Treasurer’s Office for the National Futures Association in Chicago. NFA is the self-regulatory organization for the U.S. futures industry.
Joseph Greene, BBA ’95, was admitted to the partnership of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP on July 1, 2006. He lives in the Twin Cities with his wife Jodie and their three children, Nicholas, Chloe and Sophia.
Steve Bindl, BBA ’96, recently accepted a new position with Harley-Davidson Motor Company as a category manager in the P&A Division.
Dina Tarter, BBA ’96, and her husband had their second child, Alexandra, this spring. Tarter has also been promoted to vice president at Edelman PR, where she provides human resource management for the Chicago office.
Mark Matiszik, MBA ’97, joined Brown Shoe Company as vice president, e-commerce, leading a team that includes the company’s Shoes.com organization and its web design group. He and his family are relocating to the St. Louis area after six years in Germany, the United Kingdom and Madison.
Barry Tarter, BBA ’97, is the founder and executive director of EXACTsports.org, a system that predicts athletes’ potential according to physical ability, sports attitudes and mental performance. He has worked with high school, college and pro athletes.
Rudolph Kuss, BBA ’98, is an attorney with the law office of Daniel W. Stevens LLC in Brookfield, Wis. Kuss specializes in real estate and construction litigation.
Ken Rice, BBA ’99, is working toward an MBA at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. This past summer he worked at Booz Allen Hamilton in its Chicago office.
Julie Preston, MAcc ’01, is the financial reporting manager for the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. Preston is engaged to Mike Karg. She is the vice president and young alumni contact of the UW Alumni Chapter of Orange County and advises the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at UC-Irvine.
Eric Zawid, BBA ’01, graduated from the Hotel School at Cornell University and earned his Master in Management in Hospitality. Following graduation, Zawid accepted an offer to work at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino as a leadership development associate. This program is designed to train future leaders of the organization on hotel and casino operations.
James Strode, BBA ’02, finished his PhD in sports management in June 2006 at The Ohio State University and has a tenure-track faculty position at Ashland University, teaching and conducting research on sport consumer behavior.
David Pausch, MA ’03, recently accepted the position of director of development for Temple University Press, Temple University’s publishing house. Pausch is in charge of all fundraising activities for the press.
James Ledvina, MAcc ’06, who has been working for TDS in Madison, reports he will attend law school.
Roy W. Howard, BBA ’64, died July 11, 2006. He and his wife, Joanne Howard, together received Distinguished Business Alumnus Awards from the School of Business in 2000. A CPA, Roy Howard earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from the School of Business and an MBA in hospital management from the University of Chicago. He spent his career in medial management, including as an administrator with Kaiser-Permanente Medical Care Program —the nation’s largest HMO—until his retirement in 1987. Roy and Joanne Howard made a major gift for the auditorium in the business school’s Fluno Center for Executive Education that bears their names. The Howards had been long-time residents of Woodside, Calif.
Edward J. Sackley, Jr., BBA ’50, died Oct 30, 2006. He was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He began his work in real estate for Long-Kogen Inc in 1953 and retired as president in 2005. Sackley served with the U.S. Army in World War II and received a Bronze Star for heroism.
David R. Fosshage, BBA ’55, died May 11, 2006. Fosshage retired from his sales position at Culligan in 2004. He and his wife, Carol, had resided in Janesville, Wis.
Charles G. Meyer, BBA ’60, died Aug 11, 2006. Meyer spent his career at Ford Motor Company in Michigan, where he retired as director of finance and new business development in 1995.
