Ernst & Young Professor of Accounting Larry Rittenberg was named one of the nation’s 100 most influential people in finance. In its June issue, Treasury and Risk Management magazine included Rittenberg on a list of government and industry heavy hitters with President George W. Bush and Lawrence Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corp. Only eight academics made the list. Rittenberg was included because of his work as chairman of the Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO). In July, Rittenberg received the Institute of Internal Auditors’ 2005 Bradford Cadmus Memorial Award, its highest award, in recognition of his contributions to the internal auditing profession.
Professor Ramon J. (Ray) Aldag, Management and Human Resources, was named dean of the Fellows Group of the Academy of Management established to honor members of the Academy of Management who have made significant contributions to the science and practice of management. The Academy of Management is a leading professional association for scholars dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations. Only about one percent of the members are fellows.
Associate Dean for Research Edward W. (Jed) Frees was elected to serve a three-year term on the Society of Actuaries’ Board of Governors. The Society is a professional and research service organization with more than 18,000 members in over 70 countries.
Assistant Professor Hollis Skaife, Accounting and Information, serves on the editorial board of The Accounting Review, one of the top three journals in accounting. She also chairs the Financial Accounting Standards Committee of the American Accounting Association.
Ella Mae Matsumura, an associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, was appointed co-editor of Accounting Horizons, one of three association-wide journals published by the American Accounting Association.
Mark Matosian, director of graduate career services, was voted outstanding staff member by the Graduate Business Association for the second year in a row. In addition to his usual duties, he coaches teams in the Big Ten case competitions, where Wisconsin has finished in the top three spots the past four years.
Joseph Boucher, senior lecturer in business law, received the 2005 Wisconsin Small Business Legal Assistance Award for providing legal assistance to entrepreneurs for more than 20 years.
James Hickman, emeritus dean and professor of the School of Business, was honored by the UW-Madison Speakers Bureau for his outreach efforts.
Assistant Professor Elizabeth Odders-White, Finance, Investment and Banking, was promoted to associate professor.
Four retiring employees at the School of Business were honored for their outstanding service by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In Executive Education, Professor Ed Marien and Faculty Associate
Chris Christensen were granted emeritus status. Professor Bob Miller of the Department of Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance, also was granted emeritus status. Karen Stauffacher, assistant dean and director of the Business Career Center, was given emerita status.
Professor Antonio Mello, Finance, Investment and Banking, was named Frank Graner Chair in Finance
Associate Professor Toni Whited, Finance, Investment and Banking, was named Kuechenmeister-Bascom Professor in Business.
Professor Donald B. Hausch, associate dean of master’s programs, was named Dickson-Bascom Professor of Business. Professor Emeritus Bob Pricer entered the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship’s UW-Madison Entrepreneur Hall of Fame last spring in recognition of his career teaching entrepreneurship.
Bolz Center for Arts Administration Director Andrew Taylor was named consulting editor of The Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society.
Karla Johnstone, an associate professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems, was named to the editorial board of The Accounting Review.
Real Estate Professor Timothy J. Riddiough was the headline speaker for the national meeting of the National Real Estate Forum, where he spoke about the state of commercial real estate markets.
Assistant Professor Kenneth Wathne, Marketing, was given the Outstanding Educator Award by the Madison chapter of the student organization, Mu Kappa Tau (MKT) for the second year in a row.
