Five Ways
to Stay Connected
Alumni and friends play an important role in ensuring the continuing success of the School of Business. There are several ways you can help us make even more progress:
- Refer outstanding students to the school. The quality of our students on the undergraduate and graduate levels improves each year, and the stronger our applicant pool, the stronger our program.
- Share your expertise. Alumni and friends have a wealth of experience to share when it comes to business practices, current trends and building careers. Mentor a student, offer career advice to a recent graduate or be a guest speaker at a student organization meeting.
- Hire our graduates. Our students receive a well-rounded education, complemented by a focus in one of our many career specializations. Grant a student an interview, or refer a colleague to the school.
- Make a financial contribution to the school. Whether it’s $20 or $500, your annual gift puts us even closer to achieving our goals. Plus, making an annual contribution is a quick and easy way to stay involved in the School of Business. To contribute to the annual fund, use the gift envelope in this magazine or call the UW Foundation at 608/263-4545.
- Keep your contact information up-to-date. Give us a call or log on to the online alumni directory at www.bus.wisc.edu/alumni. In just five minutes, you can ensure you’ll remain part of our world-class alumni network.
For more than 100 years, the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business has been molding leaders. Our alumni lead departments, small companies, large firms, non-profit organizations and Fortune 500 corporations. Our university is one of the world’s top contributors to knowledge in all areas of business.
Maintaining our position requires strong relationships with corporate partners, who play a crucial role at the School of Business. They hire our undergraduate and MBA students, serve on boards, send employees to our executive education programs and provide financial support. Perhaps most importantly, they help keep our programs relevant to business by offering advice and opportunities for students to apply what they’ve learned to real business situations.
Two years ago, UW-Madison created the Office of Corporate Relations to help businesses access the vast resources offered by the university. We are working closely with this campus office to form beneficial partnerships with people at companies large and small. This fall, we had the opportunity to attend an alumni event at Cargill in Minneapolis. I was impressed by the loyalty and dedication of the many UW alumni who work at Cargill. The reception provided a terrific opportunity for alumni to form connections with colleagues. We plan to do more alumni events at corporate locations over the
next year.
As an alumnus, you play a crucial role in our corporate relations strategy because you know about the progress that is being made at the School of Business. By talking with your colleagues, you can help encourage your company to form stronger partnerships with us.
When your company recruits, recommend the talented graduates of our new Wisconsin MBA and our outstanding undergraduate business students. When your company is considering executive education programs, point out that our program is ranked 15th in the country by the Financial Times and provides exceptional value. As a UW-Madison alumnus, you have a lot to be proud of.
Partnering with UW-Madison and the School of Business is a terrific opportunity for your business—and for us. We look forward to strengthening our existing partnerships with companies and forming new relationships in the year ahead.
