Lou Holland's Golden Rules for Successful Investing

Lou Holland

“Be a contrary investor or thinker—don't follow the herd over the cliff. Focus on companies with great management; buy companies with superior products. Use common sense. If you can't understand it, don't do it. Be patient.”

Paul Collins on Managing Your Career

Paul Collins

“A lot of people talk about managing your career. The best way to manage your career is by performing your job very, very well. If you do that, you end up with a strong career. You attract attention based on the way you perform your job. People will gravitate toward you.”

The fall semester brought many noted individuals to campus to interact with the School of Business in a variety of ways. They included:

Paul Collins, BBA '58
Retired Vice Chairman
Citigroup

Erroll Davis, Jr.
Chairman, President and CEO
Alliant Energy

Brian Dumaine
Editorial Director
Fortune Small Business

Thomas J. Falk, BBA '80

Kimberly-Clark Corporation

Lou Holland
Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer
Holland Capital Management

H. Fisk Johnson

S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc.

John Morgridge, BBA '55

H. Fisk Johnson spoke to members of the Family Business Center, and Brian Dumaine spent a week on campus as part of the Business Writer in Residence program. The others were on campus to share their experiences with graduate students as part of the Dean's Executive Leadership Series. (Richard Teerlink, retired chairman and CEO, Harley-Davidson, also spoke at the Executive Leadership Series, see story)
