Competing in Copenhagen

Kristin Nichols, Josh Jeffers, Amy Lee and Jason Kreuziger

Undergrads Kristin Nichols, Josh Jeffers, Amy Lee and Jason Kreuziger were able to represent the School of Business in a Copenhagen competition thanks to CIBER.

Four School of Business undergraduate students were able to compete this spring against students from top business schools from around the world thanks to CIBER funding.

UW-Madison was one of only two U.S. teams invited to participate in the Copenhagen Business School Case Competition. The five-day program tested students' abilities to solve a realistic business case.

Students were presented with a case study involving the Landis Group, a Dutch firm in the field of network infrastructures. The 11 teams had to examine a set of challenges facing the company and prepare an in-depth plan for helping the firm deal with increasing inventory and declining stock prices. On the final day of the competition, the teams made oral and written presentations and fielded questions from judges before an audience of more than 300 people.

In the end, the team from Wisconsin was one of three teams to make the finals and the judges noted that they were particularly impressed with the team's quantitative skills.

Wisconsin's students also won a special award for best team spirit. The secret to their success? They were able to greet their fellow competitors in six languages and taught them the joys of that great Wisconsin tradition -the chicken dance.
