Are new corporate accountability measures making a difference or making a mess? Finance faculty and a Wall Street investigative journalist debate their impact.
Dianne M. Orbison, long one of the most successful and active alumni of the School of Business, died April 12. Orbison was chief investment officer of Securian Financial Group & president of Advantus Capital Management in the Twin Cities.
Orbison was a graduate of UW-Madison, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and French, and a Master of Science in Real Estate Investment Analysis, which she earned in 1977. A former member of the Dean’s Advisory Board, Orbison remained active with the School of Business, especially the real estate program. She was one of the first speakers in the business school’s Executive Leadership Speaker Series. Memorials in her honor may be given to the UW Foundation, YMCA Camp Menogyn or YMCA Camp Nan-A-Bo-Sho.
Earl E. Richter, BBA ’48, died November 29, 2006. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired in 1990 as CEO of Modine Manufacturing Co. after a 42-year career. He and his wife, Carlista, lived in Racine, Wis.
William (Bill) H. Dodge, PhD ’57, died December 25, 2006. Dodge was a professor at the UW-Madison School of Business, teaching in the field of transportation and public utilities for 26 years until he retired in 1990. He served as economic consultant to the mayor of Madison and was awarded a Page One Citation by the Madison Newspaper Guild. He also was an active member of the American Economic Association Transportation and Public Utilities Group for several years.
Alphonse D. Suslick, BBA ’41, died February 13, 2007. He retired in 1964 from the Navy as a commander after a career of more than 20 years. He and his wife, Claire, resided in North Carolina.
