Smith, BA '32, celebrated his 100th birthday on September 25, 2001. Prior to retiring, he was an advertising manager for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company. He lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Jay H. Price, Jr., BBA '49, was honored by the Department of Accounting and Information Systems of the School of Business for his "outstanding service and contributions to the department." For more than seven years, Price had donated his time as a lecturer in the department. Bruce Ellig, BBA '59, MBA '60, has published his fifth book, entitled "The Complete Guide to Executive Compensation." Richard H. (Rick) Towers, BBA '65, MBA '66, has recently returned to Ernst & Young in New York as a principal in the national and international offices, specializing in auditor independence. For the past three years he has been the technical director of the Independence Standards Board. Bill N. Schwartz, BBA '67, has been named dean of the Indiana University–South Bend School of Business and Economics. Edwin Ruthman, BBA '68, joined Talon Asset Management, an investment consulting firm in Chicago, as a senior vice president and principal. Arthur E. Henningsen, Jr., BBA '70, took early retirement on his 55th birthday as senior vice president and chief planning officer for Ecolab, Inc., in St. Paul, Minn. His oldest son graduated from UW–Madison in 1999 and his youngest son is now a sophomore.
1971–1984 Neil Kosterman, BBA '72, president of DeltaQuest LLC in Madison, has been named to the board of directors for Xechem International, Inc., of New Brunswick, N.J. Lionel Butler, MBA '74, of Houston, Texas, has written and published his first book, entitled "Career Track or Side Track: A Career Guide for Young African American Professionals." The book was written to help upper-level African American college students become more successful in advancing through the corporate environment. Shawn Bergemann, BBA '74, MBA '80, vice president and director of corporate finance–Asia region for Motorola, based in Singapore, was featured on the cover of the June 2001 issue of CFO Asia in an article focused on restructuring the workforce. George Patterson, BBA '76, has joined Robertson/Ryan in Milwaukee for insurance, sales and risk management consulting. Patterson has been in commercial insurance for 26 years and resides with his family in Delafield, Wis.
G.E. (Gerry) Widen, MBA '78, was recently named vice president finance and controller for the commercial systems businesses of Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jim Fishkin, BBA '81, is vice president of operations at Sytech in Darien, Ill. Kip F. Headley, BBA '84, has assumed the position of COO of Nippon Life Insurance Company of America and moved to New York City in August. His apartment was three blocks away from the World Trade Center. He reports that the events of September 11 left him and his colleagues "shaken but unhurt and they are resolved to be involved in the rebuilding of New York City." David L. Rosen, BBA '84, was promoted to lead new business development for Ecolab in St. Paul, Minn.
1985–1994 Douglas M. Engelman, BBA '85, MS '87, was promoted to partner at PMRealty Advisors in Newport Beach, Calif. His responsibilities include managing the firm's largest portfolio and sourcing new investment opportunities in several West Coast markets. Peter G. Sirotkin, BBA '79, MS '87, joined Omaha Fixture Manufacturing, Inc., as its chief operating officer. Omaha Fixture is a national supplier of store fixtures to the retail industry. Terry Leavitt, BBA '88, is director of planning and allocation for the children's/intimate divisions of Stage Stores, Inc., based out of Houston, Texas. Cheryl Mitchell, BBA '90, recently accepted a position as marketing manager with Kyphon Inc., in Sunnyvale, Calif. Kyphon manufactures a device to address spinal compression fractures. Brent Pahnke, BBA '91, is an investment executive at Dain Rauscher in Madison, the ninth largest securities firm in the U.S.
Paul Weiss, PhD '92, is senior vice president, business development for Gala Design, Inc., in Prairie du Sac, Wis. Edwin Chan, BBA '92, recently left China Grill Management to join Houston's Restaurant Group at its Citicorp location in Manhattan. He also recently married Peggy Wona of Toronto, an avid Badger fan. Ben Metzler, BBA '92, is a knowledge strategist for Sopheon in Akron, Ohio. Matthew S. Morrison, BBA '92, is a claim attorney for General Casualty Insurance Companies at its corporate headquarters in Sun Prairie, Wis. He married Laura Klever, BA '93, in February 2001. Amy Schmidt, MS '94, started a new job at S.C. Johnson as a senior marketing research manager in June and gave birth to her first son, Evan Daniel, in February. Jaebeom Suh, MS '94, is an assistant professor of marketing at Kansas State University.
1995–2001 Heung-Joo Cha, MS '95, was hired as an assistant professor in the finance department at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. Aaron Mikulsky, BBA '95, was recently certified as a black belt from the Juran Institute. He is leading teams on quality improvement projects to better processes at CNA Financial in Chicago. Joseph Kultgen, BBA '96, is CEO and one of the founders of TrekShare.com, a website that enables travelers to create, publish and automatically share their adventures while traveling. He lives in New York City. Jeremy Graff, BBA '97, has been selected as one of only seven members of Dain Rauscher's Senior Consulting Group in recognition that he is one of the firm's leading investment management consultants. Todd Hjermstad, BBA '97, is pursuing an MBA in marketing and decision sciences at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Pat Koppa, MS '97, and his wife, Laura, welcomed their new daughter, Allison Laura, on May 8, joining Jack (7), Luke (5) and Mitch (3). He works in Harley-Davidson's performance consulting group as the Sales Excellence Program Manager for Harley's U.S. dealer network. Frederick N. Petillo, MBA '97, is a market research manager for PIC Wisconsin in Madison. Kurt Manke, BBA '00, is an actuarial analyst for Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation in Madison. Matthew Goetzinger, BBA '01, is with the investor services group at Strong Investments in Milwaukee.
