Transferring Credits
In order to receive credit for courses taken at another institution, you must have your official transcript from the other institution submitted to the UW-Madison Office of Admissions.
Beginning Fall 2006 all transfer business courses will be evaluated by
the Office of
Admissions. Submit official transcripts to
the Office of Admissions by mail to:
716 Langdon Street,
Madison, WI 53706
or in person on the 3rd floor of the Red Gym.
Courses taken at other institutions can be transferred to UW-Madison provided the course content and rigor are equivalent to the courses offered here.
Students should be aware that courses taken at another institution can satisfy requirements here at UW-Madison, however, the grades received for these courses will not affect any UW-Madison GPA.
To take a course from another institution, you must apply to that university. Contact the transfer institution's Undergraduate Admissions office for details. To view lists of courses offered by another institution, please consult the transfer institution.
There are several ways to determine the equivalency of a course. Please refer to the table below to determine what action to take. Click on the appropriate box for more details.
| Course taken in Wisconsin* | Course taken outside of Wisconsin | |
|---|---|---|
| Prospective UW-Madison Student | Transfer Information System | Enrollment Confirmation |
| Current UW-Madison Student | Transfer Information System | See Admissions Office |
*Most Business courses are upper level (Junior/Senior) courses and will not be found in TIS. For upper level Business courses, current students should use the Admissions Office process to determine equivalencies.
A note about Summer Session.
A note about Study Abroad.
Prospective Student Taking a Course in Wisconsin:
Students interested in Business, who plan to transfer to UW-Madison should be familiar with the
School of Business transfer information as well as the
transfer information provided by the
UW-Madison Admissions Office
For courses that are taken at public Wisconsin colleges & universities, students may use the Transfer Information System (TIS) to see how courses will transfer to Madison. If you cannot find the appropriate course or school on TIS, please refer to the
Course Outside of Wisconsin instructions.
To initiate an evaluation of transfer credits by the Office of
Admissions, students must first return their enrollment confirmation form
(included in the University admission packet) and make a reservation for the
Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) program. After you
confirm your enrollment and make your SOAR reservation, every effort is made
to send you an evaluation of transfer credit before the SOAR program. If
this is not possible, you will receive your transfer credit evaluation at
SOAR.
