Prospective Transfer Students

Thank you for your interest in the School of Business at the University of Wisconsin - Madison! The UW-Madison undergraduate business program is consistently ranked among the top programs in the nation. The School of Business offers nationally recognized programs across the school in areas such as accounting, finance, management, marketing and real estate.

A charter member of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the School of Business is one of a select few in Wisconsin that are fully accredited by the AACSB, the organization that sets quality standards for business education.

Three steps to gain admission to the School of Business:

1. Apply to UW-Madison - Transfer students who intend to enter the School of Business should apply to the University's Office of Undergraduate Admissions by October 1 for spring semester and February 1 for fall semester. For transfer student admission information, please visit the Undergraduate Admissions web page for transfer students.

Admission to the University does not guarantee admission to the School of Business.

Transfer students should designate "Business" on their application to the University.

HINT 1: To initiate an evaluation of transfer credits, students must first return their enrollment confirmation form (included in the University admission packet) and the SOAR reservation form (sent after the admission packet). Admitted students will receive an evaluation of transfer credit at the Student Orientation, Advising & Registration (SOAR) program. SOAR is held in January for the spring term and in summer for the fall term.

2. Establish a UW-Madison GPA - To be considered for admission to the School of Business, transfer students are required to complete at least 12 credits at UW-Madison, which must include a minimum of 6 credits of either business courses or unfulfilled pre-business courses. The students' UW-Madison grade-point-average will be used as a selection criteria for admission to the School of Business.  Grades from the transfer institution do NOT carry over to UW-Madison.

NOTE: Transfer students who completed their freshmen and sophomore years at one of the 2-year UW-Colleges may not be required to complete 12 credits at UW-Madison before applying for admission to the School of Business. Click here for more information.

3. Apply to the School of Business - Transfer students should apply to the School of Business at the beginning of the semester that they will complete at least 54 credits (junior standing) and all Pre-business Requirements. Students must also adhere to application deadlines. Application to the School of Business guarantees consideration but NOT admission. Students with 100 or more credits are not permitted to apply for admission to the School of Business.

School of Business admission requirements are based on the semester and year a student began college/university coursework (matriculation date). Students who began taking college/university coursework more than 5 years prior to transferring to UW-Madison will abide by admission requirements in place at the time of their transfer. Refer to the 10 semester rule.

To see your specific admission requirements, you'll need to answer the following question:

When did you start college or university coursework (including any college or university coursework, but excluding college coursework taken in high school)?

When will you transfer to UW-Madison?
