Breadth
These requirements are for students who matriculated (first started college coursework) between Summer 2003 to Spring 2008.
Students who have matriculated in Summer 2008 and beyond should refer to these links below to learn more about their Business Breadth Requirements:
Students who transferred to UW-Madison or returned to UW-Madison after an extended absence should know about the ten semester rule. Students who matriculated prior to Summer 2003 should see their academic advisor and/or DARS report for their specific Business Breadth requirements.
Students earning an undergraduate business degree must take at least one course in each of two School of Business departments outside their major area for a total of 6 credits. Courses taken to satisfy this requirement may not include core courses, courses required by or cross-listed with the student's major, General Business 100, any 399 (Readings and Research) course, or international business courses cross-listed with language departments. Courses taken at another institution must be directly equivalent to a UW-Madison business course and title (i.e. not elective credit). Students cannot take both breadth courses from the same department.
Notes:
- Students with two majors in business or students with one major and specialization in supply chain management need one course (3 credits) outside their major/supply chain management specialization to satisfy this requirement. Students with three or more majors in business or two majors and the supply chain management specialization are not required to take additional breadth courses.
- Students in a major with curriculum choices can not use ANY courses on the list of choices to satisfy the breadth requirement.
