Risk Management and Insurance

Risk Management and Insurance majors must complete the following requirements. For detailed course descriptions, please consult the Undergraduate Catalog.

The following requirements are effective for students admitted to the School of Business beginning Fall 2007 and thereafter.  All other students should view the RMI major requirements listed on the DARS report or consult with your assigned, School of Business academic advisor.       

  1. Admission to the School of Business
  2. RMI 300 (3 credits), Principles of Risk Management
  3. Complete the three courses below OR two of the courses below and one elective course
  • RMI 610 (3 credits), Property Risk Management
  • RMI 615 (3 credits), Liability Risk Management
  • RMI 620 (3 credits), Employee Benefits Management

Elective Courses

School of Business Courses on these elective lists can not be used to satisfy the breadth requirement.

  • Any 600-level RMI course (3 credits)
  • Any 600-level Act Sci course (3 credits)
  • Act Sci 303 (3 credits), Theory of Interest and Life Insurance
  • Finance 325 (3 credits), Corporate Finance
  • Finance 330 (3 credits), Derivative Securities
  • MHR 305 (3 credits), Human Resource Management

A NOTE ABOUT COURSE OFFERINGS:

  • RMI 610 and 640 are only taught in the Fall semester
  • RMI 630 is only taught every other Fall semester (2006; 2008; 2010, etc.)
  • RMI 615, 620 and 625 are only taught in the Spring semester
