Application to the School of Business
The School of Business admission application is now entirely electronic. Hard copy applications are no longer offered. Please read the following instructions before applying.
Application Period
Applications are accepted during the first 4 weeks of the semester. The application is due no later than Friday, February 15th at 4:30 p.m.
About Letters of Recommendation:
Letters of recommendations ARE NOT CONSIDERED during the admissions process. Applicants should not submit letters of recommendation. Students who wish to submit supporting documentation related to extenuating circumstances (letter from a physician, etc.) should drop off a hard copy of the information to their assigned Business advisor.
How and When to Apply
Students should be completing all of the pre-Business requirements during the semester in which they apply in order to be considered for admission. Please work with your Business Academic Advisor if you have any questions about the requirements.
Applications must be complete in order to be considered. Student applicants with incomplete grades at the time applications are reviewed will not be considered for admission.
The School of Business uses a holistic approach in the admissions process.
Admission is competitive and selective. While the admissions committee gives considerable weight to grade point averages (Pre-Business GPA and Business/Economics GPA), a personal statement/essay is an important part of the application.
Essay
The on-line application provides a place to include your essay. The essay text must be typed, then pasted into the on-line application system. Attached files are not permitted. Applications with missing or late essays will not be considered. Students should compose their essays prior to beginning the electronic submission.
The application essay should consist of any information that you would like the admissions committee to know. The essay is an important portion of the application and is the means in which the Admissions Committee can make holistic admission decisions. The format is open-ended. The length of the essay should be about the length of 2-page, double-spaced document (about 650 words).
The following guidelines may help you in constructing an effective essay:
DO NOT:
- Talk about your lemonade stand (or substitute any early-childhood entrepreneurial experience here).
- Talk about what your parents (or other relatives/neighbors) do for a living unless you can directly tie it back to yourself as an applicant.
- Discuss High School experiences, except in the most meaningful/life-altering cases.
- Talk about how well you did in Accounting…your grades are already part of the process.
- Resubmit the same essay if you are reapplying.
DO:
- Focus on post-High School experiences.
- Discuss not only what you’ve done, but what you’ve learned from it.
- Demonstrate leadership, communication skills, community involvement, social responsibility, or any other interesting experience that you would like the Admissions committee to know about.
- Feel free to be creative, but be sure to execute that creativity well.
- Show your essay to many different people who will give you honest
feedback. The Writing Center can also be a good resource. Your Business
advisor cannot review your essay.
**Please make sure that your full name and campus ID are at the top of your statement.**
