Student Organization Guidelines

To be recognized as an official student organization, each group must fulfill requirements from the UW-Madison Student Organization Office as well as the School of Business.

UW-Madison Student Organization Office (SOO) Requirements

  • Register each fall with SOO, Room 239 Red Gym. (http://soo.studentorg.wisc.edu/)
  • Have at least three members.
  • Be controlled and directed by students.
  • Comply with university policy and also city, state and federal regulations.
  • Have a primary contact - a member whose phone number and e-mail are made public to individuals seeking information about the organization.

To be recognized as a School of Business student organization:

  • Have a purpose in line with the School of Business vision and mission.
  • Post a mission statement on the organization's bulletin board (in the Blue Chip Deli or Graduate Lounge), and provide a copy to the undergrad or grad office.
  • Be composed of School of Business students. However, membership can be open to all UW-Madison students.
  • Have a faculty or staff adviser affiliated with the School of Business.
  • Authorize two individuals to access the organization's funds.
  • Provide a list of officers, including the two individuals with access to the group's funds, to the UW-Madison Student Organization Office (239 Red Gym) and the undergrad or grad office.
  • Send at least one member to either the graduate (President's Council) or undergraduate (UBLC) leadership council meetings.
  • Provide an activity report and financial summary to the undergrad or grad office the week before finals at the end of each semester.
  • Use profits from fund-raising activities to strengthen programming within the organization or distribute to charitable organizations.
  • Follow minimum requirements from student organizations.
