Strategic Management in the Life and Engineering Sciences - Internships

Students in the SMILES program are highly encouraged to build upon the fundamentals and skills that they learn in the classroom and exercise them in a real-world setting.  Internship completion during the summer between the first and second year may offer students the opportunity to take on a strategic leadership role that leverages their deep technical background and emerging business skills. Below is a sampling of recently completed internships:

  • Recruitment of new members and leading of due diligence processes for the selection of potential investment opportunities for an area angel investment network.
  • The design and preparation of marketing strategies for technology products in the healthcare industry.
  • The competitve analysis, market analysis, and revenue modeling for a business incubator and seed investments.
  • The evaluation of new market opportunities for proprietary drug delivery devices and new pharmaceutical compounds in the US, Europe, and Asia.
  • The evaluation of Asian and multinational outsourcing opportunities.
  • The identification of the opportunities and competitive landscape for intellectual property controlled by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
