An Innovative Curriculum
The curriculum covers all dimensions of risk management and insurance, including recent innovations in sustainability risk management, enterprise risk management, and risk financing techniques. Please review the RMI degree plan for the Class of 2010 to gain a better understanding of our curriculum.
Exceptional Faculty
You will learn from faculty who are leaders in their field--widely published in academic journals and members of top advisory panels. They are also noted as superb teachers, receiving both school and university-wide recognition for excellence in instruction.
Applied Learning Creates Real Results
Applied learning projects give our students an opportunity to apply knowledge obtained in the classroom in a real world setting. Numerous courses require projects associated with actual firms experiencing risk management needs. The most notable example is the risk management seminar in which teams of students undertake consulting projects. Recent examples include:
- Evaluating overall risks for a large assisted-living facility, providing advice regarding its insurance coverage, loss control techniques and other important risk management endeavors
- Working with American Family Insurance Company's risk manager to evaluate the insurer's risk-management processes
- Conducting a risk-management audit for Land's End, including analyzing and efficiently reducing risks associated with exposure to loss from e-commerce, including possible negative implications for the organization's reputation
- Completing a comprehensive risk management and employee benefits audit for the East Madison Community Center, resulting in program improvements and insurance cost savings
- Evaluating the UW-Madison student health insurance program and recommending improvements and modifications.
