Congressional Budget Office First rate, unbiased and technically competent economic analyses of a wide range of public policy issues, including fiscal issues as well as more or less anything the government spends money on. If you're a U.S. taxpayer, you owe it to yourself to check it out. Highly recommended.

General Accounting Office Same general comments as for CBO, above, although the focus of GAO analysis tends to be legal and accounting more than economics. Highly recommended.

Congressional Research Service Another government "think tank," serving members of Congress. Publicly available reports listed here, or see an expanded list, including similar state reports, at George Washington University's Gelman Library.
