Sites of Selected Individual Academics
Some individual academics keep up amazing web pages. All have a lot of useful information, some are whimsical or entertaining.
David Backus, NYU's Stern School of Business. Some excellent finance materials.
Bradford DeLong, Berkeley Economics Department. Good stuff on long run economic development, among other topics. Among other gems, a draft of his book on the economic history of the 20th century. He's also one of the leading analysts of the "new economy."
Nicholas Economides, NYU. Slightly flaky design, but interesting content on the economics of networks. Very important for thinking about the future of cities. Also, links to wav files of his wife singing Puccini. Great concept.
Peter Gordon, USC. A markets-oriented planning professor. Interesting articles on sprawl, land use and other related planning topics.
Will Goetzmann, Yale School of Management. Really interesting site. Will does some really interesting "big picture" work on finance and real estate, including some cool historical research. Check his page out!
Campbell R. Harvey Duke University, good finance links.
Dale Jorgenson, Harvard University. Clean site, with some really choice papers and datasets to download. Topics include productivity growth, the effect of information technology on the economy.
Paul Krugman's Web Page. The MIT economist (and sometime columnist) who writes a lot about trade, and some interesting stuff about the aggregate economy and about urban economics.
Nouriel Roubini's Asia Crisis Homepage This is a great site. If you have any interest in Asia you have to check it out.
Joe Stiglitz is Professor of Economics at Stanford, and a leader in the economics of information and regulation. He's currently on leave from Stanford to serve as Chief Economist of the World Bank. This is a good site for info on the global economy.
Hal R. Varian holds several positions at Berkeley. He wrote the textbook our Ph.D. students use for microeconomics, but is better known lately for his work on the economics of the internet and the "information economy." His latest book, Information Rules, is recommended.
Jeffrey Williamson, of Harvard, is an economist and economic historian known for his work on urbanization and globalization, among other topics. Some good papers and data from his site.
Dr. Ed Yardeni's Homepage. Deutsche Morgan Grenfell's Chief Economist maintains a lively website with lots of data, much in PDF charts. Both domestic and international data included. Highly recommended.
