Academic Resources
Academic information for PhD students is available from a number of sources. All entering students received a new student Orientation Guide for Research Business Degree Programs. If you did not receive this guide, please contact the PhD Coordinator in 1149 Grainger Hall to obtain a copy. In addition, the Graduate School of the University of Wisconsin-Madison has many useful and informative sites accessed through the current students’ information page at http://info.gradsch.wisc.edu/for/current.html. If you have questions regarding academic matters and issues, always address them first to Belle Heberling in 1149 Grainger Hall or to Phil Miller in 2266-B Grainger Hall.
Minor Requirements
Student Must Request "PhD Minor Proposal Form"
School of Business
PhD Office
1149 Grainger Hall
Business PhD students are strongly encouraged to discuss the choice of minors (Option A and Option B) and appropriate course work that will make up the minor with the advisor as early as possible. Students should complete the PhD Minor Proposal Form (available from the PhD Coordinator in 1149 Grainger Hall) at the time the course work is determined. This form must be filed in the PhD Office no later than the date on which the preliminary warrant is requested (no later than three weeks prior to the date of the preliminary examination). The preliminary warrant will not be requested until the form is filed. If changes in course work are subsequently made, the student should pick up the proposal form and have the advisor sign off on any changes or course substitutions; or the student may file a new PhD Minor Proposal Form showing the revised course plan.
The Graduate School will issue the preliminary warrant as a result of the request made by the School of Business. The warrant is to be signed by those participating in the preliminary exam, validating successful completion. The student should notify the PhD Coordinator whether or not all of the major and minor course work is completed at the time the student returns the signed warrant to the PhD Office. If all major and minor course work is completed, the preliminary warrant will be signed by the Assistant Dean for the Learning Environment and submitted to the Graduate School. If course work is NOT completed at the time the warrant is turned in, it will be held in the School of Business until the satisfactory completion of all course work is verified. The preliminary warrant cannot be filed with the Graduate School and the student cannot become a dissertator until ALL degree required course work (major and minor) are verified as satisfactorily completed.
