Financial Support

Other Sources of Support

Other sources of support may be available to students meeting various criteria or in certain situations.

Academic departments within the School of Business make every effort to create the most competitive funding package available for each student they admit. Because the packages are comprised of funds from various sources (e.g., the department, School of Business general scholarship funds, Graduate School fellowships and funds, and other grants and scholarships) these packages vary between departments and from year to year and may carry varying stipulations. Virtually all doctoral students in business are funded at a level that guarantees for four years the following coverage:

  • Tuition and fees
  • A stipend of between $12,900 and $17,000 per year
  • A comprehensive family health insurance plan
  • (Optional) Additional funding may be available after four years
  • (Optional) Departments may offer summer teaching or research appointments or other forms of scholarship support to supplement the academic year package

Applicants with superior academic records and standardized test scores may be eligible for UW-Madison and Graduate School Fellowships, awarded through a competitive process through the Graduate School of the University. Those interested in being considered for this competition should be sure that their essays clearly reflect not only their credentials and past accomplishments but also their potential for achievement in an academic setting.  The absolute deadline for this funding opportunity is the financial aid priority deadline -- the first Friday in January of each year.
