Business and Consumer Insights Team Lead, Johnsonville Sausage (Sheboygan Falls, WI)

Position Overview

As the Business and Consumer Insights Team Lead (Manager/Sr. Manager) you will have the opportunity to act as a strategic partner to the marketing team (base business and new product development) by providing actionable recommendations based on consumer, shopper and marketplace insights. You will get to identify information needs, develop consumer learning agendas, and lead and execute custom and syndicated marketing research projects. You will also get to build member talent as it relates to delivering and applying business and consumer insights to drive business performance.
Core Responsibilities

New Product Development:

• Partner with New Product Marketing Director to build new product strategy, identify and execute consumer research needed to support new product development goals
    o Platform identification
    o Identification and translation of consumer needs and dissatisfactions within identified platforms
    o Translate consumer feedback into needed product features and benefits - including higher order emotional benefits
    o Test consumer propositions (concept, product, and package) and provide recommendations
    o Utilize appropriate and creative array of custom research techniques to achieve the desired goals for new product        initiatives, including but not limited to: ethnographies, focus groups, IDI's, concept testing, conjoint, needs/gaps analysis,        home-use testing, BASES, package design studies etc.

Base Business:

• Coach team to deliver monthly, quarterly and annual business reviews
• Coach team in development of consumer and category insights needed to develop activation guides and post analysis for customer marketing programs
• Coach team to deliver research for the purpose of:
    o Target identification and understanding
    o Identifying unmet and emerging consumer needs
    o Brand Health Tracking
    o Positioning
    o Communications testing
    o Other critical business learning & validations

Functional:

• Coach two direct reports to successfully deliver on new product development and base business consumer learning agendas
• Coach and train cross functional partners around the consumer research discipline to drive a focus on "consumer driven" innovation and brand excellence
• Manage external research partners/suppliers to successfully deliver on learning agendas
• Balance multiple simultaneous projects and look for synergies among projects to reduce overall costs & timing for research
• Act a champion for "Business and Consumer Insights" across the organization
• Collaborate with the Customer Insights team to ensure appropriate business and consumer insights are built into customer presentations
• Maximize value from supplier partners in order to deliver superior business and consumer insights
• Use strong communication, organization, and project management skills to insure all projects run smoothly and are delivered on budget and within the specified timing
• Partner with SI&A Director to develop and manage Business & Consumer Insights budget

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Marketing Research, or related field required; MBA preferred
• 7+ Years of consumer and business insights experience
    o Minimum 3 years in CPG
    o Minimum 4+ years supporting new product development
    o Minimum 2+ years supporting base business
• Excellent knowledge of quantitative and qualitative consumer insights methodologies
• Strong working knowledge of advanced analytic analyses and techniques (e.g. Marketing Mix, Market Structure, Cluster Analysis, Factor Analysis, Price Elasticity etc.)
• Strong working knowledge of syndicated research (e.g., IRI/Nielsen, dunnhumby, Spectra,)
