For my summer internship I was a a summer associate at the investment bank Emory & Co. in Milwaukee, WI. Emory & Co. primarily provides lower middle-market financial advisory services on both sell-side and buy-side deals, and has a valuation practice. I was very fortunate to be at one of the busiest investment banks in the region, as most had experienced little to no deal flow, given the economy and lingering credit crunch.

When I joined at the beginning of the summer the firm was closing on multiple deals and I was mainly involved in pitching new clients. We signed up a client on one particular pitch book that I worked on and I subsequently spent a lot of time working on this deal. I had great experiences meeting with the client, writing the information memorandum, and performing the financial analysis of the company. In my final weeks of the summer, we brought the company to market, which was an exciting process.

In addition, throughout the summer I worked on a buy-side engagement with a French company. I was also a part of the many networking events that the company put on and attended and met many of the professional attorneys and private equity sponsors in the greater Milwaukee community. Overall, this was a tremendous investment banking experience. I learned a lot about the industry. I will draw on these experiences as I continue my investment banking career after I graduate in 2009.
