"I knew Madison would be quite a shift from Washington, DC; however, it is a shift I am enjoying! There is a very friendly and casual atmosphere in Madison that I have never experienced before. There are also just so many and such a wide range of things to do - you can go to the farmers' market on Saturday morning, then see the Badgers win a football game, and finish your day off attending a performance at the Overture Center for the Performing Arts."

Madison has earned a stellar reputation as an outstanding place to work, live and study. It offers an urban setting with a friendly neighborhood atmosphere.

The greater Madison area is a mecca of recreational opportunities. Our five lakes, and hundreds of miles of trails provide year-round sports and recreational fun for everyone.

In 2004, Forbes magazine named Madison the best place in the nation for buisness, citing its educated work force, lack of crime, affordable housing and other strengths. Madison has the lowest unemployment of the 250 largest metro areas in the nation.

Cultural arts lovers find Madison a paradise. Even cities many times its size can not boast a facility comparable to the Overture Center for the Arts, a $205-million center for the visual and performing arts.

Madison Named a Hub for Creative Workers

"They're 15 up-and-coming hubs for creative workers—places that draw people who are talented, tech savvy and tolerant. Meet the home of your next big opportunity.”   So says, Fast Company magazine, which identified Madison, Wisconsin as one of its 15 “Fast Cities.”  (Other cities cited included San Antonio, Texas and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina.)

The magazine declared Madison to be “a progressive-minded enclave where unemployment is a rock-bottom 2.5% and the creative class continues to expand at an average of 7.8% a year. Madison owes much of its success to the 26,000 people who work in high-tech fields - a number that's growing every year. The vast majority of Wisconsin's recent $750 million biotech initiative will wind up here.”

Fast Company is only the latest media outlet to identify Madison as one of the best places to live in the United States.
