Finance Midterm
Quick introduction – I am first year ACFIN student and recently moved back to Wisconsin after living in Minnesota for 10 years to get my MBA. I had worked for about five years and decided that it was time to take the next step in my career and get my MBA. Besides many of the other great attributes of Wisconsin, the ACFIN program is what clinched for me. During the next six months, I will give an insiders perspective on what life is like for a first year MBA student in ACFIN at Wisconsin.
From the moment I stepped on campus, I heard tales of the first finance midterm – average scores under 50, individual scores around 15, and people crying during the test (okay, I made that one up). Last week, I took the long awaited and heavily hyped test. The tales were true. This test was the hardest test I have ever taken and almost as painful, with the CPA test only more painful due to the fact it was two days long. After feverishly writing, calculating, and erasing for two hours, it was over and a group of second years stopped by congratulate us and help us celebrate the end of the dreaded test.
Although I was clueless for a lot of the test, I was amazed when a couple days later I was discussing the CAPM and correlation between stocks and I knew what I was talking about. In discussing with other first years, they were too amazed at how much they learned when studying for this test. I had wondered if I am actually retaining any of this information that is continually being thrown at me and thankfully I am.
