Sheldon and Marianne Lubar Honored With 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award
Together, Wisconsin School of Business alumnus Sheldon Lubar and Marianne Lubar have supported higher education in Wisconsin for more than a decade. The couple will be honored May 8 by the Wisconsin Alumni Association. They are among seven individuals to receive 2008 Distinguished Alumni Awards.
Sheldon Lubar earned his BBA in 1951 and his law degree in 1953 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is the founder of the Milwaukee investment firm Lubar & Co. and a former assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He is also a former president of the UW System's Board of Regents. Marianne Lubar has held prominent roles with the Milwaukee Public Library, the Milwaukee Art Museum and UW-Milwaukee's Golda Meir Library.
The couple were contributors to the $85 million Wisconsin Naming Partnership at the Wisconsin School of Business. They also endowed UW-Milwaukee's Lubar School of Business and UW-Madison's Lubar Institute for the Study of Abrahamic Religions.
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Wisconsin Alumni Association. The award celebrates outstanding UW-Madison graduates whose professional achievements, contributions to society and support of the university exemplify the Wisconsin Idea.
The recipients will be honored at an awards program at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, at the Wisconsin Union Theater in the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. in Madison. The awards program is free and open to the public. Details and registration are at uwalumni.com/daa.
