Wisconsin Business Alumni in the Spotlight

Leading publications, online news sources and news programs are turning to School of Business alumni and students as experts.  We are excited to see so many School of Business Alumni featured or quoted in leading newspapers, journals and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, BusinessWeek, and CNBC.  Here are just a few examples where your fellow (and future) alumni have made the press:

Steve Bennett
Steve Bennett

BusinessWeek quoted Steve Bennett, BBA ’76, CEO of Intuit, on the tactics he used to roll out his version of Six Sigma when he left GE to take over at Intuit.  Earlier this spring, Bennett was featured in a Wall Street Journal special report titled "Boss Talk." He discussed his strategy at Intuit and how his experience at General Electric has impacted his business approach.

The Wall Street Journal cited Steve Buller, BBA '90, MS '93 in an article about a fund he has recently taken over for Fidelity Management. Buller has been with Fidelity since 1999. Buller was also interviewed for an article on smartmoney.com about international real estate funds.

Jeff Diermeier
Jeff Diermeier

Jeff Diermeier, president and CEO of the CFA Institute, was recently quoted in an article on Forbes.com, providing feedback on a report he collaborated on as a member of the Committee for Economic Development.  The report suggests corporations need to take a more long-term approach to performance, instead of the short-sightedness many leaders have shown recently.  In June, Diermeier was quoted about the shift in equity research in an article for MSNBC.com. He and the CFA Institute were also featured in an article in Investment Executive, announcing CFA Day, commemorating the institute's 60th anniversary.

Second-year Applied Security Analysis MBA student Erica Healey appeared on CNBC’s Fast Money on Thursday, June 7. The show’s “Face 2 Face” segment featured Healey’s question about buying real estate investment trusts (REITs). Healey is currently working at Callahan Capital Partners in Chicago.

Ted Kellner
Ted Kellner

Ted Kellner, BBA ’69, was profiled by Kiplinger.com on the strategy he and his partner use to determine which companies are part of their FMI Large Cap, a very successful portfolio out of Fiduciary Management in Milwaukee.  Kellner is the chairman & CEO of Fiduciary Management, Inc.

Mike Lehman

Mike Lehman, BBA '74, CFO of Sun Microsystems, was quoted in an article in Forbes magazine about the company's plans to buy back $3B worth of stock. Lehman was also recognized by Treasury and Risk Magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in finance.  See who else made the list.

Adam Sweet
Adam Sweet

Adam Sweet, MBA ’07, competed on CNBC's Fast Money Show (Grade the Trade segment) on Friday, May 18 against MBAs from Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business, Columbia Business School and the University of North Carolina. Sweet was given the scenario that a severe drought across the Midwest had caused the price of one bushel of corn to double. He had 30 seconds to present his trade ideas, which included Archer Daniels Midland, Smithfield Foods, RAH and Monsanto.

Marjani Coffey
Marjani Coffey
