Risk Management Student Wins National Scholarship

Mark Kleinlein, an MBA student majoring in Risk Management and Insurance, has been designated a “Spencer Scholar” by the Spencer Educational Foundation. The designation, given to outstanding students studying risk management and its related disciplines, comes with a $10,000 scholarship. Additionally, each Spencer Scholar is assigned an industry mentor to help guide his or her career.

Kleinlein, who will start his second year in the MBA program this fall, has more than seven years of experience in the insurance industry. Prior to returning to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to earn his MBA, he worked as an insurance defense attorney. Most recently, he was a state-level claims manager for Progressive Insurance Company. He has a B.A. from Michigan State University and a J.D. from the University of Detroit School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan.

The Spencer Educational Foundation, Inc. was established by the Atlanta Chapter of the Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (RIMS) in 1979 to honor the late Robert S. Spencer. The mission of the Foundation is to “stimulate, promote and encourage promising students of risk management disciplines in fulfilling their education goals…”
