Wisconsin Students Take First in Case Competition

Students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business took top honors in national competition June 2 in San Francisco. The business case competition was part of the 36th annual meeting of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, an organization that provides scholarships and assistance to under-represented minorities in graduate business schools.

The competition, sponsored by Procter & Gamble, involved teams of students preparing and presenting solutions to a business problem. A panel of experts awarded first place and $6,500 in scholarships to UW-Madison students Aileen Hagert and Sheryl Kennedy. They won over teams from Dartmouth College, the University of Virginia, New York University and the University of Michigan, among others. Hagert and Kennedy are second-year MBA students. Their advisor for the competition was Director of Graduate Student Services Mark Matosian.

Assistant Dean for Master's Programs Philip J. Miller said, "This serves to reinforce our conviction that our students are well-prepared academically and are competing successfully with top students from all over the U.S." Earlier in the year, Hagert and Kennedy were on a team that took second place in a case competition among Big Ten MBA programs. This is the latest in a string of wins in student team competitions by UW-Madison business students.

The UW-Madison School is a charter member of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, which was founded in 1966. It is made up of 14 top U.S. university business schools.
