The Wisconsin Marketing PhD: Your Path to a Career in Academic Marketing

A PhD in marketing from a respected research institution is widely regarded as a necessary qualification for those interested in a career as a marketing faculty member. This career offers a high degree of intellectual stimulation, creative freedom, and the opportunity to develop and disseminate new knowledge via research and teaching.

Today, more than ever, is an excellent time to consider obtaining a PhD in marketing. At present, the job market for marketing PhDs is quite strong. According to the American Association for Collegiate Schools of Business, this demand will grow in the near future, as faculty shortages are projected to rise over the next decade.

Starting salaries (nine month) for newly-minted PhDs in marketing average over $120,000 a year (at research universities). In addition, most schools provide three or more years of additional summer salary.
