Marketing Career and Coursework Tracks

There are numerous career tracks open to students majoring in marketing. We discuss several opportunities below. However, you should not think about your career in any sort of scripted fashion. Instead, think about what interests you and what you think you would like to do for 40+ hours a week. We have found students to be very creative about the types of careers they can configure by thinking about what interests them. To this end, you may want to consider choosing a double major, or additional courses outside the School of Business to complement your marketing background. There are a number of possibilities, including, but not limited to, psychology, statistics, education, child development, health care, political science, textile and apparel design, food science, etc.

We also have several potential elective tracks that you can pursue. These are recommendations and are not required. We provide this information to facilitate your decision making process. If consumer marketing interests you then a combination of courses from the first two tracks may be appropriate. The sales management track would be appropriate for business-to-business marketing. Marketing Department faculty can identify other courses from such areas as psychology, sociology, engineering, etc. that may be of interest to you.
