Content Width

The recommended content area for each page shall be 760 pixels wide to accomodate smaller screen sizes.

Grid System

The standard page width of 760 pixels divides nicely into four columns of 190 pixels. This allows for the creation of 1, 2, 3, and four column layouts.

It is recommended that this grid be used as a guide for segmenting the content on each pages are modified.

Search Engine Optimization

Keep content pages focused on a specific topic. Use h1, h2 and h3 tags to create headers and subheads that separate the content into scannable chunks.

Semantic Markup Considerations

Using appropriate HTML tags (semantic markup) to mark up your pages helps both search engines and screen readers for the visually impared better understand the structure of your pages.

Title Bar (title tag)

Title tags should be unique and related to the content of the page. Page title is heavily considered by search engines when determining page relevance.

Navigation Bar

It is suggested that sites use the left column under the header elements for navigation. This positioning makes it easy to add sections of navigation, providing greater flexibility than a top navbar. It is also the most widely used navigation system currently used on the School of Business site.

Frames are not recommended.
