Position Description: Study Abroad Peer Advisor
This is a student hourly position with International Programs and Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) within the School of Business.
Primary responsibilities include answering students' questions about study abroad, serving as a receptionist and providing administrative support to the three professional staff members who manage International Programs and CIBER.
Wages
Wages are $8.50 per hour.
Qualifications
- Have participated in a School of Business-sponsored study abroad or exchange program
- Excellent customer service, administrative and organizational skills
- Professional conduct as a representative of the School of Business CIBER/International Programs
- Strong initiative and follow-through, positive attitude, maturity, attention to detail
- An interest in and the ability to work with university students and faculty
- Strong work ethic
- Experience and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
- Willingness to work 10-12 hours per week during the academic year, including some evenings. This means having some regular hours available to be scheduled for work during the school day.
- Start work the week of August 24, 2009 and continue through finals week May 2010.
Job responsibilities
- Serve as a receptionist in a high-traffic international center
- Serve U.S. and international students who are participating in study abroad programs by answering questions, making campus referrals, and assisting in the application process
- Assist with correspondence (telephone and email), filing, fee collection and mailing projects
- Represent School of Business International Programs at campus-wide study abroad fair and School of Business events, including study abroad information sessions (one evening per semester), orientation (one evening per semester) and other special events. This may require presenting information to groups, but more often will entail answering individual questions.
- Provide clerical support for study abroad administration and assist with special CIBER projects such as conferences, mailings, annual reports, and brochure development
- Work with staff to maintain and use databases to create tables and reports
- Assist in the management of multiple programs, tasks, deadlines, and priorities
- Other duties as assigned
