Universidad Complutense de Madrid

Fall: Early October - Mid February

Spring: Early February - Late June

Undergraduate Exchange

Tracing its origins to the 13th century, the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) is one of the oldest universities in the world. Its student body of 130,000 also makes it one of the world's largest universities. UCM has two campuses, Moncloa (located in Madrid proper) and Somosaguas (located approximately 20 minutes outside of Madrid by bus). You will attend business classes from UCM's Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales at the Somosaguas campus, although you will live in the city center.

Madrid, a city of three million inhabitants, is a cultural center whose historical treasures complement its modern character. During the semester, visit the world-renowned Prado art museum, tour the ornate Royal Palace, and cheer on your favorite matador at the local bullring. Located in the geographic center of Spain, Madrid is a convenient base from which to explore the Iberian Peninsula. Day trips to the medieval town of Toledo, the walled city of Avila, and Segovia's enormous aqueduct, combined with journeys to the Arab-influenced south, Mediterranean coasts, and the lush northern Basque region, will grant perspective on Spain's diversity.

Language requirement and courses

All courses are taught in Spanish. You must be able to speak, read and write very well in Spanish.  You will attend classes with Spanish students.  As well, you are required to find your own housing in Madrid.  Business and non-business classes are available.  Receive UW residence credits and grades.

An optional, non-credit language review course is available the two weeks before the semester begins. (September for Fall and February for Spring). In addition to brushing up on your language skills, this is an excellent way to meet other international students.

This list is subject to change.  Due to circumstances beyond our control such as enrollment limitations, time conflicts and course cancellations, International Programs cannot guarantee that participants will be admitted to their first choice of courses.

Fall courses

The fall semester runs through February so most students choose spring instead of fall.  Contact International Programs if you would like to review a list of fall courses.
