Courses

Course offerings are subject to change. Due to circumstances beyond our control such as enrollment limitations, time conflicts and course cancellations, International Programs cannot guarantee that participants will be admitted to their first choice of courses. It is crucial for students to plan carefully in advance, allowing for the possibility that needed courses will conflict with one another or not be available during their semester in London.

Housing

Accommodation for the semester in London program is provided by the Acorn Group. Reasonable housing is difficult to find. This is not surprising given the age and relative shortage of housing in central London. Acorn has recently been providing very nice accomodations near City University. While expensive, services are provided and it is quite convenient. Participants are not obligated to live in the accommodation provided by the Acorn Group; you may elect to arrange your own housing. Be aware some sections of the city are not safe or suitable for student housing.

Students who live in housing provided by the Acorn Group can expect to share a flat with UW students, including shared bedrooms, bathrooms, and a small living area and kitchen. Linens, towels, pots and pans, and cleaning service are provided. Lockers, wireless and phone charges are now included in the weekly fee (approximately 200 British pounds) as is digital TV. Flats are within walking distance (up to 30 minutes) of City University.

Costs and scholarships

The following are estimates only. Costs are subject to change. Estimates noted with an asterisk were calculated based on an exchange rate of $1 = 0.59 British pounds. Recently the rate has been fluxuating. Check xe.com for up-to-the-minute conversion rates.

Details about financial aid and scholarships are available.

Estimates based on 2009/2010 academic year. City's Fall semester is approximately three months, spring is approximately four months. Length of stay depends on exam periods.

Applying

There will generally be 15 students admitted per semester.  City University will review all applications after the deadline and choose as many qualified students as they can accommodate (City University will only place a limited number of UW-Madison students in each class). As there are limited spaces, application to this program does not guarantee admission.  Minimum requirements are a 3.0 GPA, 54 credits earned by the time you go abroad and 9 credits of business/economics.

Applications are due March 1st of the previous academic year.  If space for spring semester opens, the application process will re-open with a deadline of October 1st. Attend an information session, held in February and September.  Information session dates, program availability and applications are available on the application website.
