About the Addition to Grainger Hall
A $40.5 million addition to the east side of Grainger Hall will house the MBA programs of the Wisconsin School of Business and provide substantial additional resources. The addition, located on Park Street between Johnson Street and University Avenue, is expected to be complete by the time the fall semester 2008 begins.
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the goal of providing an addition to Grainger Hall?
The addition will be a huge step forward, by providing a home for each of the MBA career specializations that make up the new Wisconsin MBA. It will offer centralized resources for MBA students, including state-of-the-art classrooms, MBA Program Office, MBA Career Center, breakout rooms and a unique multi-purpose Plenary Room. In addition, it will provide upgraded office space and classrooms for the Executive MBA and Evening MBA programs.
The moving of the MBA program and career specialization offices into the addition will free up much-needed space in the original section of the building to provide new opportunities for faculty, staff, and undergraduate and PhD students in the current space. The overall goal is to make Grainger Hall a much more student-friendly gathering space and learning environment. In terms of outside users, the addition will enable the Wisconsin School of Business to offer spaces that can meet the needs of alumni and corporate constituents, while providing common spaces crucial to unifying the Wisconsin School of Business community.

What other benefits will the Addition provide?
- Centralized student services for undergraduates
- Expanded Business Career Center
- New Copy Center
- A new 200-seat dining facility on the first floor
- Centralized stairs for easy access between floors
- Storage for School of Business departments, units and centers

How is the addition being paid for?
Funding for this project is provided by:
75% Gifts/Grants
25% State Funds
0% Tuition/Student Seg Fees
A $20 million gift, one of the largest in the history of the university, was given by The Grainger Foundation. In addition to the $20 million Grainger gift, $10.5 million in gift funds and $10 million in general fund-supported borrowing will complete the project budget.
How Will the Grainger Hall Addition Be Environmentally Appropriate?
The addition is being designed to meet or exceed today’s standards for sustainability. Special features include: no net gain in storm-water runoff, high-efficiency building systems, use of recycled materials and incorporating daylight into more than 90 percent of the new space.
What is the timeline for construction?
All people and programs should be in place when classes begin in fall 2008. This is a tentative schedule, since bidding and construction are not totally predictable, but the School of Business is optimistic that this will be the general timeline.
