Shane Strohl

Shane joins the Grainger Center’s class of 2008 with 14 years of experience as a supply officer in the United States Navy. He graduated from Brenau University in May 1996 with a BS degree in business administration.

Upon graduation from Officer Candidate School, he attended the Naval Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia, where he studied inventory, financial, food service, retail, and contract management. Shane was the material and food service officer on the submarine USS Asheville for three years. During this assignment, he gained both leadership and management experience by overseeing two divisions and the inventory management for 17,000 shipboard parts and an annual budget of $1.3 million. In 2000, Shane was reassigned to Navy Supply Corps School, where he was the training officer and instructor for several logistical courses. In 2002, he was assigned to the Pacific Submarine Force headquarters in Pearl Harbor as the integrated logistics support officer. This assignment included management of life cycle material support for submarine employed systems.

Most recently, Shane was assigned as readiness officer on the helicopter assault ship USS Iwo Jima. He was responsible for leading five supply divisions with over 50 readiness officers and sailors. His responsibilities included the management of an annual budget of $8.5 million and inventory of 27,000 line items worth $97 million.

Upon completing his sea tour in July 2006, Shane was awarded a full-tuition scholarship from the U.S. Navy to earn an MBA. His numerous years of experience in the Navy Supply Corps, and specifically in integrated logistics support, have exposed him to numerous aspects of the supply chain field. Shane remains an active-duty lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy.
