Beyond the Classroom
Student interaction with professionals in the field of supply chain management is a hallmark of the MBA experience. Several times throughout the year, students meet with and learn from executives in various settings - visiting executives lecture in the Supply Chain Management Seminar class and in the executive speaker series. Students, faculty, and staff travel each semester to distribution centers and manufacturing facilities to get a firsthand view of a supply chain operation in action. MBA students participate in the prestigious Sam M. Walton College of Business International Graduate Logistics Case Competition. Students attend professional enrichment courses through the School of Business Executive Education series, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals annual conference, The Logistics Council Milwaukee Roundtable events, and Institute of Supply Management Madison chapter presentations and seminars. Students have opportunities to participate in Center-sponsored and MBA-wide international experiences. In 2007, the Center traveled to Ireland; in 2009, the destination was Brazil.

A team of Grainger Center MBA students brought home a
second-place trophy and a $2,000 prize in the 2009 Sam M. Walton
College of Business International Graduate Logistics Case
Competition. The Wisconsin team placed first among U.S. teams,
which included some tough competition from Penn State, Michigan
State, the University of Arkansas, Brigham Young University, and
the University of Minnesota, among others. The prestigious event
brings together graduate students from the world’s top supply
chain management and logistics programs and includes tremendous
networking opportunities.
Flextronics was one of several companies in Brazil that the Center visited during winter break 2009.

In late October, Center students, faculty, and staff traveled to Racine, Wisconsin to tour the world headquarters of S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc.
Social activities are also planned throughout the year for students. The annual welcome dinner allows new students to meet faculty, staff, and returning students. A dinner with members of the Executive Advisory Board is held each fall. A holiday party celebrates conclusion of the first semester, and an end-of-the-year reception salutes May graduates.
100% Placement
Supply chain management talent is in high demand, as the
Center's placement record of 100% placement for summer

consistently the highest among peer schools, ranging from $80,000 to $110,000.
