November 3, 2009Professor François Ortalo-Magné, Robert E. Wangard Chair in Real Estate, is being given the “Lauriers de la recherché” award, which translates to “research laurels,” by the mayor of Toulouse, France, for his research in real estate and economics. Ortalo-Magné, and Lecturer Joe Walsh, Real Estate and Urban Land Economics, have been invited to join the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE). CRE is a membership organization established for real estate advisors. The organization serves as an information resource and provides its members with opportunities for professional development, knowledge sharing and networking.
Professor Abdullah Yavas, Real Estate and Urban Land Economics, was interviewed by Bloomberg on Monetary Policy and Turkish economy, and was invited by the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco to attend its first Asia Economic Policy Conference in Santa Barbara, Calif. Yavas had two papers accepted for presentation at the upcoming annual meeting of the Economic Science Association in Tucson, Ariz., and had a paper entitled “Men, Women, and Competition: An Experimental Test of Behavior,” co-authored with David Vandegrift, published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
Assistant Professor Philip Kim, Management and Human Resources, was given the 2009 “Outstanding Reviewer Award” by the Journal of Business Venturing. Kim primarily reviewed papers in the field of entrepreneurship for the journal.
John Surdyk, director of the initiative for studies in technology entrepreneurship, had an article published in QFinance, a guide compiled by over 300 finance professionals. Surdyk’s article, “CSR: More than PR, Pursuing Competitive Advantage in the Long Run,” discussed the relationship between corporate social responsibility and long-term success of a firm’s financial performance.
Melissa Anunson, senior marketing specialist with the Marketing Services department, received her Professional Development Certificate: Influential Marketing Communications from Wisconsin School of Business Executive Education. Linda Gorchels, program director of marketing, was the faculty sponsor and oversaw the development of the body of knowledge for the certificate. Anunson completed seven courses in four disciplines including marketing, sales, finance and advanced management to earn the certificate.
