Professor Abdullah Yavas, Real Estate, is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Turkey. He recently travelled to Ankara, Turkey, to participate in the monthly meeting of the Committee. Yavas has three papers accepted for publication: “An Experimental Test of Sabotage in Tournaments,” co-authored with Donald Vandegrift, Journal of Institutional and Theoretical Economics; “Men, Women, and Competition: An Experimental Test of Behavior,” co-authored with Donald Vandegrift, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization; and “Price Discovery in Real Estate Markets: A Dynamic Analysis,” co-authored with Yildiray Yildirim, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics.

Professor Neeraj Arora, Marketing, has been named to the John P. Morgridge Chair in Business Administration. Arora is the executive director for the A.C. Nielsen Center for Markeingt Research. His research focuses on business problems that require econometric modeling of individual or group behavior. Most of this research builds upon psychological and microeconomic models of consumer choice that use Bayesian statistics. Arora regularly presents his research at marketing conferences and has participated in industry projects relating to customer needs assessment, market segmentation, new product design, joint decision making and CRM.

Associate Professor Greg DeCroix, Operations and Information Management, has been named to the Wisconsin Naming Partnership Professorship. His research is in the field of supply chain management, with a specific focus on areas such as supply chain management with environmental considerations; managing supply chain disruption risk; and the impact of decentralized decision making on supply chain efficiency.

Associate Dean of Executive Education Jim Johannes has been named to the Aschenbrenner Chair in Finance. Johannes is the executive director for the Puelicher Center on Banking. His courses have been critical for students with career interests in banking, and he is working to advance a new initiative for undergraduates who are interested in careers in investment banking.

Associate Professor Elizabeth Odders-White has been named to the US Bank Professorship in Banking. Odders-White is an active Finance faculty member. Her research focuses primarily on the trading of equity securities in U.S. markets. Examples of her work include studies of the impact of government regulation on securities markets and examinations of the role of private information in trading. Her work has appeared in top academic journals including the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Journal of Quantitative and Financial Analysis.

Three representatives of the Wisconsin School of Business presented at the Advanced Leadership Institute’s conference, “Social Media for the Government” in Chicago, Ill. Assistant Dean of Alumni Relations Alisa Robertson, PR Director Melissa Anderson, and Assistant Director of the MBA Career Management Center Ellen Bartkowiak presented.

Senior Marketing Specialist Melissa Anunson of Marketing Services presented “Marketing in a Down Economy”  to the Greater Madison Postal Customer Council during National Postal Customer Council Day.  The talk, geared towards high-volume mailers from across southern Wisconsin, outlined a customer’s viewpoint and discussed marketing techniques to help succeed in the recent recession. 

Assistant Director of the Career Management Center Ellen Bartkowiak presented at Madison MAGNET’s series, “Take Control of Your Career” on the topic of “Branding Your Elevator Speech.” She spoke on the importance of knowing what you bring to the table, knowing what your audience wants, and pitching your speech in a way that directly supports your brand.

Arrivals

Nicole Gilbertson has joined Undergraduate Academic Services (UAS) as an associate student services coordinator. She received her B.A. in international studies, as well as a certificate in religious studies, from UW-Madison. Gilbertson is also a candidate for an M.S. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at UW-Madison.

Megan Paulson was hired as an associate student services coordinator in Undergraduate Academic Services (UAS). She was previously a limited- term employee with UAS. She earned her B.A. in sociology from UW-Madison.

Jane Corkery was hired as a university services program associate in Executive Education. Corkery previously worked as a limited-term employee. She has a Bachelor of Business Arts in Management from Iowa State University.

Departures

Melissa Amos-Landgraf, associate dean for administration, has left the business school to accept a position as associate dean with the School of Education.
