July 1, 2009François Ortalo-Magné has been promoted to full professor in the Department of Real Estate. Ortalo-Magné, who joined the faculty in 2002, chairs the department.
Real Estate Professor Stephen Malpezzi is the new academic director for the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate. He joined the department in 1990 and served as department chair from 2002 through 2008. Tim Riddiough, professor and E.J. Plesko Chair of Real Estate and Urban Land Economics, recently stepped down as academic director of the center, a role he filled since 2004. Riddiough will be on sabbatical for the 2009-10 academic year.
Ellen Bartkowiak, Jen Smet and Matt Nelson organized a Big Ten Social at the MBA Career Services Council’s annual meeting in Phoenix, Ariz. Bartkowiak also co-presented “Is Speed Networking for You?” with Michel Pontarelli from the Tippie School at the University of Iowa. Smet’s presentation was also selected and she delivered “Technology + Practice + Peers=Interview Success” along with Jamie Belinne, University of Houston. It was the first time that the Wisconsin School of Business had two presenters selected for the conference.
Michael Mihelbergel is retiring from the Puelicher Center for Banking Education. He will be staying in Madison to pursue his consulting interests in lending and banking.
G. Kevin Spellman, director of the Hawk Center for Applied Security Analysis, is resigning as of July 31. He has accepted a position at the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he will develop and lead a new Investment Management Certificate Program and teach in the program.
Nick Pasquarello has joined the Family Business Center as outreach specialist. He will be mentoring with Joyce Fasanella, who retires July 6. Pasquarello comes to the business school from the UW Men’s Soccer program, where he was the assistant coach. In addition to his coaching responsibilities at UW, he helped build and run the recruiting efforts for the program, was in charge of all aspects for the summer camps and community outreach endeavors, was the principal force in reconnecting the alumni of the program, oversaw all equipment and team travel needs and was the lead liaison between student-athletes and the Academic Affairs office in the Athletic Department. He is also the head coach/trainer of the Madison 56ers, Madison’s premier soccer program. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, having earned his degree in Communication Arts. His office with the Family Business Center is in the Fluno Center.
Sara Stephenson, an academic advisor with Undergraduate Academic Services, has accepted another position on campus.
