Women in Business Council Awards Enterprise MBA Scholarships

March 31, 2009

The Women in Business Council (WIBC) at the Wisconsin School of Business is awarding $10,000 in scholarships to students in the school’s Executive MBA and Evening MBA programs. The awards will be presented to the students on Friday evening April 3, at a speaker event for Enterprise MBA students.

The council’s 2009 scholarships winners are Executive MBA student Kathryn Otto, who is director of healthcare initiatives at Thrive, and  Evening MBA students Elena Khasanova, Julie Lussier and Laura Ritchie. Khasanova is information technology manager at the CUNA Mutual Group, Madison. Lussier is outreach and annual giving supervisor at the Dane County Humane Society. Ritchie is project manager at the Greater Madison Convention and Visitors Bureau and also founder and CEO of TuRbo Translation LLC, Madison.

“These students  have demonstrated willingness to take on an educational challenge in addition to their jobs and other obligations,” says Jo Oyama Miller, who co-chaired the council’s scholarship committee. “After reviewing the applications of many worthy students, we hope that other organizations and individuals will join us in supporting students in the school’s Enterprise MBA programs.” The winners are chosen by a committee of council and business school representatives.

The Women in Business Council was started in 1993 as a collaboration between the business school and area women executives and entrepreneurs. The organization has given more than $100,000 to students in Enterprise MBA programs at the business school over the years. This year’s WIBC scholarships are being given in honor of Connie Rieben, who worked in the school’s Executive MBA program for many years and served as a member of the council.
