Accounting Program Receives $50,000 PricewaterhouseCoopers Grant
January 29, 2009The Accounting program at the Wisconsin School of Business was one of 24 programs in the nation chosen for international financial reporting standards (IFRS) grants from the PricewaterhouseCoopers Foundation.
International financial reporting standards have been adopted by more than 100 countries, and there is growing acceptance of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) as an international standard-setter. With the $50,000 grant, the Department of Accounting and Information Systems will execute an initiative that will:
- Target all accounting students in the program and all finance majors who take certain accounting courses as part of their curriculum.
- Provide planned curriculum enhancements to build student awareness and knowledge of IFRS via a coordinated infusion process across the curriculum.
Proposed activities include the use of case studies, professional materials (such as PwC IFRS Ready), and other activities to provide the foundation of IFRS knowledge and better prepare students for a course offered as an elective in the graduate year.
PwC Foundation funding will be used to provide curriculum development grants to faculty for development of IFRS cases, sponsorship of professional presentations, training on IFRS and a project assistant to support program administrators and faculty members assigned to teach relevant courses.
The Accounting program will conduct assessment of the effectiveness of the program as part of its AACSB assessment process and share elements and results of the program through a journal article and by posting materials on the departmental Web site.
