Anne Miner Honored for Role in Mentoring UW-Madison Women Faculty

December 1, 2008

The 2008 Doris Slesinger award for excellence in faculty mentoring was presented to Professor Anne S. Miner, Ford Motor Company Distinguished Chair in Management and Human Resources at the Wisconsin School of Business. The award was presented at the Women Faculty Mentoring Program’s annual reception for newly promoted and tenured women at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The award, created to honor rural sociologist Doris Slesinger for her many years nurturing faculty and contributing to the university, has been awarded annually since 1998. It is part of the broader Women Faculty Mentoring Program that seeks to support and retain women assistant professors throughout the tenure process.

Miner said the award, “came as a wonderful surprise. As I see it, this really honors two groups. First, honors the many, many people in this community from whom I have learned so much. Second, it honors the younger emerging scholars with whom I work and who contribute to my own understanding during conversations about how we can contribute to society. This mentoring thing is a two-way street. We are all part of an ongoing chain of counsel and conversations that lets us thrive and contribute in this major research university. I’m grateful to be part of that tradition. ”

Miner joined UW-Madison in 1985, and serves as executive director of the Initiative for Studies in Technology Entrepreneurship (INSITE), and is faculty director for a new experimental residential learning community focused on entrepreneurship in a university student residence hall, Sellery Hall.
