Wisconsin School of Business Mentors Needed

November 3, 2008

The Wisconsin School of Business is starting a mentor program for new employees. This program grew out of an initiative to create a stronger new-employee orientation and to help connect new employees with current employees.

The program offers mentors a chance to share their experience and expertise and offers mentees an opportunity to solicit advice, encouragement, and informal but honest feedback.

Some of the guidelines for mentors:

  • Meet with the mentee one to two hours each month.
  • Be a good listener and provide honest feedback.
  • Work together to develop, establish and meet realistic, obtainable goals. They can set one or two goals at a time, or set short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals —whatever suits the pair and the identified goals.
  • Encourage mentees to become an integral part of the campus community through networking and, when appropriate, become future mentors.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please contact Jen Smet — jsmet@bus.wisc.edu
