Senior Associate Dean Joan Schmit, a professor in Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance, was honored by the American Risk and Insurance Association. She received the RMIR Award for the Best Perspectives Article. The award is given for the best perspectives article published in the Risk Management and Insurance Review. Schmit was honored for co-authoring the article, “The Solvency II Process: Overview and Critical Analysis.”

Professor Dan Anderson, Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance, has been honored by Risk & Insurance magazine www.riskandinsurance.com. He was named the 2008 Risk & Insurance Risk Innovator in the higher education category.

Professor Mark Browne, Actuarial Science, Risk Management and Insurance, received the Excellence in Teaching award from the American Risk and Insurance Association. The award is given to one individual annually in recognition of excellence in teaching in the risk management and insurance field.

Blair Sanford has been named assistant dean for the full-time MBA Program as well as continuing in her role as director of MBA Career Management for the full-time program. Sanford joined the Wisconsin School of Business in 2004. Previously, she was the director of MBA Advising, director of Corporate Relations, and assistant dean for MBA placement at DePaul University in Chicago for seven years. Prior to her work at DePaul, she was a consultant and later an assistant director of American College Testing (ACT). Sanford has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Cloud State University and a graduate degree from the London School of Economics.

Carrie Olson has joined the Center for Brand and Product Management as assistant director, working with Co-directors Amy Schmit and Sarah Tueting and Professor Tom O’Guinn, the center’s executive director. Olson graduated from UW-Madison with a B.S. in Political Science. She has experience in both marketing and the consumer packaged goods industry. Her most recent role has been at Target, as an executive team leader, where she managed five team leaders and a staff of 250.

Melissa Meyer has joined the Executive Education program as a senior marketing specialist. Meyer comes to the business school from Downtown Madison, Inc., where she was the director of membership development. She has her BBA in Marketing and International Business from UW-Madison.

Kelly Cuene is the new student services coordinator with the Business Career Center. Previously, Cuene worked for Lawrence University as a career counselor and a diversity center programs assistant. She has her M.A. in Higher Education and College Student Personnel Administration from New York University and her B.A. from UW-Madison.

David Baumann has joined the business school as an information process consultant in with Executive Education. Baumann previously worked for TTM Technologies, Incorporated as an automated optical inspection operator. He holds his M.S. in Environmental and Public Health and his B.S. in Biology from UW- Eau Claire.
