August 1, 2008Jamie Marsh, Assistant Director, Undergraduate Career Services, has been elected the secretary of the HireBig10+ Consortium. This is an organization of career services personnel from the 11 Big Ten schools, plus the University of Chicago, Notre Dame and DePaul. Marsh will serve as one of the four leaders of the organization. Steve Schroeder, assistant dean for undergraduate programs and director of Undergraduate Career Services, served as the group’s president the past two years.
Members of the MBA Career Management Center team: Blair Sanford, Matt Nelson, Jennifer Smet and Ellen Bartkowiak presented at the annual conference of the MBA Career Services Council in June in Florida. Their presentation was titled “BEACHES: Building Educational and Creative Holistic Educational Series.” It focused on the creation, development and deployment of the Wisconsin MBA’s Jump Start career program. The Wisconsin School of Business was in good company, as other schools on the program included: UCLA-Anderson, Thunderbird, NYU-Stern, Harvard Business School and Chicago GSB. It was the first time a Wisconsin contingent was selected to present independently at the conference. In 2005, Sanford served on a conference panel.
Belle Heberling, PhD/MS coordinator in the Research Programs Office, has been appointed treasurer of DocNet. DocNet is an international organization of universities granting doctoral degrees in business administration and economics. Its purpose is to promote doctoral education in business throughout the world. The organization educates potential students about careers in academia and engages in a variety of recruiting strategies aimed at increasing the pool of qualified applicants for doctoral-granting institutions. DocNet members share information about best practices, curriculum and admissions issues, student support, and placement. DocNet also lobbies for doctoral programs within its members’ respective colleges and universities and at the national level through AACSB International, the Graduate Management Admission Council, and the media. Heberling will serve a two-year term as an officer of the organization.
Brian Zehren, student services coordinator, and Connie Miles, university services program associate A, both of Undergraduate Academic Services, have ended their employment with the school.
Will Murphy, a senior lecturer with the Marketing Department, has resigned from the school.
Dawn Hamre, academic department associate B with the Real Estate department, is retiring. Her last day in the office will be Aug. 15.
