Sky Vegetables Among Winners in Governor’s Business Plan Competition

July 1, 2008

The winner of this year’s 2008 G. Steven Burrill Business Plan Competition at the Wisconsin School of Business has won further recognition in the 2008 Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.

Sky Vegetables, a rooftop produce farming business, won second place in the category of business services in the Governor’s Business Plan Contest. First place in the category went to Pea Pod Homes LLC, a Sturgeon Bay, Wis., company that will design and distribute solar home packages.

In April, Sky Vegetables had won the $10,000 first prize in the business school’s Burrill   Competition. That annual competition encourages cross-functional teams of UW-Madison students to compete for cash prizes for presenting the best business plans.
The Sky Vegetables team was made up of senior Keith Agoada, a Management and Human Resources major, and Troy Vosseller, a Wisconsin MBA student in Entrepreneurial Management.

“Given the large number and quality of entries, it is a great accomplishment to place this highly in the Governor’s Business Plan Competition,” said Dan Olszewski, director of the Weinert Center for Entrepreneurship, which is housed within the Wisconsin School of Business. “It underscores the role of UW-Madison students and alumni in developing the entrepreneurial ventures and innovations that will drive Wisconsin’s future economy.” The mission of the Governor’s Business Plan Contest is to encourage entrepreneurs in the creation, start-up and early-growth stages of high-tech businesses in Wisconsin.
